流れ|Flow プロジェクトは、私と大岡川との会話である。
The 流れ | Flow project is a conversation between me and the Ooka River.
黄金町バザールのあちこちで、来場者は「大岡川が人間だったら、何を望むだろうか。」という質問に対する答えを書いた。
Through out the Koganecho Bazaar, visitors wrote their answers to the question "If the Ooka River was a person, what would it want."
In response I created a video piece called "Two Minutes of Video From All The Middle of All the Bridges Between Yokohama City Hall and KocoGarden Facing West."
The piece changed and evolved over the course of the exhibition in response to messages left by visitors. The messages can be considered the Ooka River speaking through the imagination of the visitors. The initial video can be considered my first reply in what would become an ongoing conversation between me and the Ooka River.
ビデオ作品は3つのセグメントに発展し、すべて同じ場所で撮影された。桜の季節の午後、桜の季節の前の夜、桜の季節の後の早朝。
The video piece evolved into three segments, all filmed at the same locations: afternoon during sakura season, night time before sakura season, and early morning after sakura season.
黄金町バザールの会期中には、他のイベントやインスタレーション、展示も行われた。最終的には、展示の最終週にインスタレーションを制作した。
来場者の答えはすべて額装され、ビデオ・インスタレーションの反対側の壁に取り付けられた。これは、バザールの期間中に変化していった私のビデオに対する、大岡川の継続的な反応と考えることができる。
Other events, installations and exhibitions happened over the course of the Koganecho Bazaar. Eventually, I created a final installation for the last week of exhibition.
All of the visitors answers were framed and mounted on the wall opposite the video installation. This can be considered the Ooka River's ongoing response—over the course of the Bazaar—to my video, which had also been changing over the course the Bazaar.
最終的なインスタレーションの一環として、"Self Portrait With... "と題された2つ目のビデオ作品が、オリジナルのビデオ作品に重ねられた。
これは3つのパネルで構成されている。左から "波のある自画像"、"葉のある自画像"、"雲のある自画像"。重ねた3枚のパネルは、大岡川との対話が私と大岡川との関係を変えた後の、大岡川に対する私の反応と考えることができる。

As part of the final installation a second video piece titled "Self Portrait With..." was overlaid on the original video piece.
It consisted of three panels. From left to right: "Self Portrait With Waves," "Self Portrait With Leaves," "Self Portrait with Clouds." The three overlaid panels can be considered my response to the Ooka River after our conversation had changed me and my relationship to the river.
The conversation continues.
All The Bridges: Two Minutes Of Video From The Middle Of All The Bridges Between Yokohama City Hall and KocoGarden Facing West.
A site specific video piece that emerged and evolved in response to the visitor's answers to the question "If the Ooka River was a person, what would it want?"
All the Bridges was part of the 流れFlow Project, which was part of the KocoGarden Project, which was part of the Koganecho Bazaar—a yearly initiative of the Koganecho Area Management Center—which in 2024 coincided with Yokohama's 8th Triennale.
As part of the final installation a second video piece titled Self Portrait With... has been overlaid on the original video piece. It consists of three panels. From left to right: Self Portrait With Waves, Self Portrait With Leaves, Self Portrait with Clouds. The three overlaid panels can be considered the next act of speaking on the part of the artist, part of an ongoing conversation between the artist and the Ooka River.
Audio: The voice of the poet Soramaru Takayama reading all the messages (as of April 09, 2024) left by visitors to the Koganecho Bazaar. The Ooka River speaks through the imagination of visitors, and is given voice by the poet.
KocoGarden: Not a gallery, and not a studio, KocoGarden functioned as an in-between improvisational space in which to carry out a variety of community engaged art installations over the three month course of the Koganecho Bazaar.
流れFlow Project: Working in conjunction with Dark Matter Labs in London, the flow project sought to explore often invisible, under appreciated, and undervalued flows of care in a neighbourhood. As a site of imagination activism the project created space for visitors to imagine a more hopeful future, by engendering a sense of care—or ecological empathy—for the more-than-human world. Specifically, to connect emotionally to the Ooka River—situated approximately 50 meters from the installation site—by pausing to consider the river's personhood.
The project situates itself within the critical discourse of community engaged art. Further, it considers itself nested within an āto purojekuto (アートプロジェクト: art project) a uniquely Japanese inflection of community engaged art. Namely, Koganecho Area Management Center, an art project directed by Shingo Yamano, a pioneer in the field. From this place, the project seeks to explore the role of art and artists within emerging bioregional regeneration initiatives.
In collaboration with Dark Matter Labs, the project sought to better understand “unsanctioned” flows of value and care. Care, as a social value, is often unseen, unacknowledged and/or undervalued. As such, care is not accounted for. It literally cannot show up on official, sanctioned, financial accounting ledger sheets. This project asked the question: How might make we make invisible care, visible? How might we make unsanctioned care, sanctionable? It did so, looking forward in time, to transition design efforts which must, in order to function, understand alternative value flows beyond monetary value, e.g. bioregional regeneration initiatives as a whole, as well as its constituent parts: i.e. Bioregional Financing Facilities, bioregional banking, or multivalent currencies.
ココガーデンについて | About KocoGarden
ココガーデンは、第3の空間です。家でもなく、仕事場でもない、その中間の第3の空間です。スタジオでもギャラリーでもない、その中間にある第3の空間なのだ。
黄金町バザールの期間中、ココガーデンでは集会、ワークショップ、インスタレーション、ミニ展示などが行われた。スペースは常に変化し、ここで起こったことに呼応して変化した。それは、3ヶ月間のジャズの即興演奏のようなものだった。
KocoGarden, is a third-space. It isn't home and it isn't work, it's something in between. It isn't a studio and it isn't a gallery, it's something in between.
Over the course of the Koganecho Bazaar there were gatherings, workshops, installations, and mini-exhibitions happening in KocoGarden. The space constantly shifted and changed in response to what happened here. It was similar to a three month jazz improvisation of collaborative art-making.
